Mojang has released a new April Fool’s Day snapshot for Minecraft that incorporates a chaotic voting system to shake up the experience.

April 1, also known as April Fools’ Day, has slowly but surely become a day where businesses and organizations have fun and fool their audiences around whatever product they have to offer.

In the video game industry, many developers incorporate funny gags into their games that alter the experience in silly ways, like Overwatch 2 silly voice lines or SEGA’s free-to-play murder mystery game Sonic.

Now, Minecraft development studio Mojang has joined in on the fun and released an April Fool’s Day Snapshot update that adds a random voting feature that can sporadically alter the world around players.

Mojang announced the update, dubbed Snapshot 23w13a_or_b, on the official Minecraft page. website. The news post explained that “humans make 35,000 decisions a day… That number of decisions is both disturbing and, frankly, frightening. These are decisions you could be making in Minecraft!!”

As such, the development team implemented a voting system that players can open by pressing the “V” key on PC. When creating a new world by playing this snapshot, every 30 seconds a message will appear saying: “I started voting for the proposal…”

Players can then open the voting menu where the game will generate a random notice that players can vote to enact. For example, a message might say: “Change the pitch of each sound by 149%” or “Set the color of the sky in The Void to sapphire.”

Fans have already come across some crazy voting options, like enabling ‘Midas Touch’ which turns everything the player touches to gold, or French Mode which gives a player’s avatar a beret, baguette and Change the language to French.

In addition to all the fun new voting options, the 23w13a_or_b snapshot also includes a bunch of new additions to the game, such as Mob Potions and Moon Dimension.

In terms of April Fools jokes, it sounds like Mojang really went all-out with the April 1, 2023 Minecraft update. Interested players should definitely log in and try it out for themselves.
