December 7 (UPI) Following an unidentified complaint, the U.S. House Committee on Ethics announced on Wednesday that it is looking into Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being investigated by the House ethics committee.
The statement said that the Office of Congressional Ethics forwarded the complaint to the independent and nonpartisan House committee on June 23 but did not disclose the subject of the probe.
Additionally, the committee announced that it would continue to investigate the case into the next calendar year, but added that this “does not itself suggest that any infringement has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee.”
A representative for Ocasio-Cortez stated that they are certain the case will be dropped.
In the statement, it was stated that the congresswoman “has always taken ethics extremely seriously, refusing any donations from lobbyists, corporations or other special interests.”
The declaration was made the day after the House ethics committee determined that Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-North Carolina, had broken the rules by endorsing a cryptocurrency in which he had financial interests.
The committee also stated that, as part of its investigation, which was first disclosed in May, it was unable to discover any proof that Cawthorn had engaged in an improper relationship with a member of his staff.
