late melast month the developers of the venerable MMO everquest II inserted a new type of loot box for the game that was basically a pay-to-win situation. It didn’t sit well with the long run community!
As MMOBomb explainloot boxes, called Libant Eternal Night Heritage Boxes, “circumvented lockouts and provided an opportunity to purchase more raid gear opportunities through the cash shop.” Fans were quick to call them “pay per raid” items and took to the game’s forums, which seem as old as the game itself, to complain.
His pleas were loud and numerous. enough for the Daybreak developers to almost instantly backtrack on the decision, post at the end of last week:
After listening to your feedback and having many discussions, we have decided to remove the Libant Evernight Heirloom Crate from the in-game Marketplace. The box and most of its current content will no longer be for sale.
We listened to them and understand that there were particular elements of the Libant Heritage Crate that go against our shared values. We will no longer make any of these types of items available.
G/O Media may receive a commission
As a result of the uproar, Daybreak has decided that “in the spirit of community feedback “they will now open a dedicated forum where players can weigh in on things like balance changes before they go live, not after:
I would also like to announce that in the spirit of community feedback, we will be opening new class balance forums for Everquest 2, expect them to arrive in the very near future. We want you, the community, the people who play these classes to help us decide which balance changes and bug fixes to prioritize with major updates. These forums will improve our communication with you and allow you to help us assess what changes are happening. These forums will have a section for each class, and you will be able to propose changes, communicate with us, and vote on the fixes and balance changes you feel are necessary for your class. The goal here is to communicate to you the time and effort these proposed changes will require and to openly discuss feasibility. We will make changes open for discussion as long as they remain within reason.
Sucks to be posting about it under these circumstances, but man, a everquest ii history! In 2023!
