Following the official announcement of his knighthood as part of King Charles III’s inaugural New Year Honours list, the legendary rock guitarist thanked his followers in a video on Instagram on Friday.

In the video, May stated, “I want to thank you so much for all your words of congratulations following the announcement of my knighthood. “I’m overwhelmed and deeply moved by the love and support you have shown me.

I’ll try my hardest to merit your respect. May ended by saying, “For now, goodnight and thank you and much love from Sir Bri,” and then gave a cheery salute.

In the post’s caption, the musician also took a moment to make fun of his new official title. “All hail! He wrote, “Sir Bri. “All right, if you want to be official… Sir Brian Harold May, M.D., CBE Not bad at all!

May was one of the 1,100 honorees on this year’s list, which was released on Friday in The Gazette, the official newspaper of the British royal family. The publication recognized May for his “services to music and philanthropy,” describing him as a “musician, songwriter, and animal welfare campaigner.” May is well recognized for being an animal rights activist when he’s not playing guitar on some of the most famous songs in music history or acting as a literal astrophysicist.

He established the Save Me Trust in 2010 to safeguard animals, and he has recently utilized his platform to oppose fox hunting and badger culling.

The guitarist, who took the stage at the Platinum Jubilee Concert earlier this year in honor of the late Queen Elizabeth II, also has the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, which was bestowed upon him in 2005.
